12 Jun European Bamboo Expo 2023 conclusions
The 1st European Bamboo Expo took place in Dortmund, Germany on the 2nd and 3rd of June 2023 and it was a huge success! The World of Bamboo came to Europe where representatives from the four corners of the World were present, many exhibitors with different bamboo projects, the common denominator being helping the Planet to mitigate climate change through Bamboo.
Lectures in which participants from the various branches of industry, agriculture, commerce, universities, the scientific community and non-governmental organizations discussed bamboo in the world, the situation we are in and what are the next steps for its development, especially in Europe. From other latitudes, various projects of a social nature were presented in which bamboo can play a fundamental role in helping needy populations, either through the construction of houses, or in nutrition, energy or income creation.
Sustainable architecture was the queen of the Expo, which was attended by a large number of architects and engineers, companies linked to the industrial sector, green building materials with bamboo and all very aware of the current carbon footprint that current construction is responsible for and the need to replace cement, steel, concrete and plastic with environmentally friendly materials.
There was also talk about sustainable agriculture, monocultures and their dangers for communities, the climate and the environment, the circular economy, the construction of bamboo houses to avoid disaster zones and the construction of bamboo between the traditional and the High -tech.
Bamboo as a strategic solution already adopted by some countries in the mitigation of climate change and in the development of a circular, green and sustainable economy and the need to develop efforts to regulate the use of bamboo in construction with the necessary certifications, were widely discussed.
How credits work, carbon certificates, how to promote bamboo culture, business plans, implementation of new plantations to meet the desperate demand for new green raw materials were also much discussed.
There was also talk of how the World of Bamboo is globally connected through a new generation that is very concerned about the damage we are doing to Nature and that feels the need to contribute to a cleaner planet.
We are witnessing a new Bamboo Era and the role of the main world organizations with the aim of creating the conditions for this new Era.
Inbar, the international organization of bamboo and roatam, the WBO world organization of bamboo, as well as the associations and bamboo societies of different countries, pioneers of this movement, which is now even stronger, and which, like the AsIB, the Iberian association of bamboo fight for bamboo to be in the plans of governments, institutions, universities, economic agents, the community in general and public opinion, so that all together, we are aware that with concrete actions widely announced by everyone at this Expo, Bamboo is of enormous importance to combating climate change now!.
